Description
Pair of Sandows chairs model 424, designed by René Herbst, one of the leading pioneers of 20th-century modern design. This 1970s production faithfully reproduces the original 1929 model, first presented at the Salon d’Automne, and stands as one of the most iconic pieces by the French designer. The chairs feature a steel frame and are characterized by elastic cord (sandows) seat and backrest, an innovative solution for the time that reflects Herbst's experimental approach to the use of industrial materials. This model perfectly represents his vision of functional, accessible design geared towards modern production. Monogrammed RH, the chairs measure 90 cm in height, 47 cm seat height, and 45 cm in width, making them well-proportioned and comfortable. The elastic cords—one red and one black—add an interesting chromatic contrast. The condition is vintage, with visible signs of use: some cords show wear, traces of age, and minor faults, as seen in the photos, all consistent with the age and use of the piece.
