Description
Bertil Vallien Galaxy Series Bottle for Åfors Glassworks, 1982. This collectible decor piece features intricate threads and dots on a white surface. Bertil Vallien (born 1938) is renowned for designing many iconic pieces for the Swedish glassworks Åfors, Boda, and Kosta. One of his most famous collections is the Galaxy series from 1982, produced by Kosta Boda in Sweden. This beautiful piece from the 1980s Galaxy collection is mouth-blown and entirely handcrafted with applied glass accents. The main body is transparent, adorned with opaque white glass paste, a darker red thread design applied on the surface, and a deep red spot on the front. Signed under the base with Kosta Boda B. Vallien, Artist Coll. needle-engraved. Marked B Vallien 78199; 7 cm in height and has a catalog number.
Bertil Vallien is a contemporary Swedish artist, best known for his mysterious and ethereal sand-cast glass sculptures. His works often feature mystical, coded, representative forms that evoke the aesthetics of primitivism, archaeology, and ancient runes. Both the bottles and the Galaxi vase come from The Artist Collection, a concept introduced by Vallien to give glass artists the freedom for personal and creative expression, moving away from the feeling of mass production. Whether the pieces were made as part of The Artist Collection or Atelier, they are limited edition studio works, individually crafted by the artist. Since each piece is hand-blown, this also ensures every finished piece is truly unique in appearance.
Anyone familiar with the glass blowing or hot working process will know that glass must reach 1,320 °C (2,400 °F) to melt, and even its working temperature is 1,090 °C (2,000 °F). This knowledge alone highlights the care, effort, and skill required to create these miniature glass art masterpieces.
Approximate measurements: L 6.5 cm x W 4 cm x H 7 cm.
