Description
This elegant set, featuring a sofa with armrests and two Chiavari chairs, showcases one of the finest examples of classic Italian design. Originally designed by Gaetano Descalzi in the city of Chiavari—an area renowned for its masterful woodworking tradition—this set is crafted from beech wood with a mahogany stain and upholstered in luxurious satin fabric. The sofa measures 125 cm in length, 59 cm in depth, 93 cm in overall height, and has a seat depth of 50 cm. Each Chiavari chair measures 57 cm in width, 55 cm in depth, 93 cm in total height, and features a seat depth of 50 cm. The iconic Chiavari chair was first created in 1807 by master carpenter Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi. At the request of Marquis Stefano Rivarola, Descalzi reimagined traditional French Empire-style chairs, giving them a lighter, more refined appearance. The design quickly gained popularity, inspiring the growth of numerous local workshops. By the time of Descalzi’s death in 1855, the region boasted around 600 craftsmen dedicated to this artisan furniture. Admired by figures such as Carlo Alberto of Savoy, Napoleon III, and sculptor Antonio Canova, the Chiavari chair remains a symbol of Italian elegance and heritage. This timeless set brings a touch of sophistication and understated style to both classic and contemporary interiors, making it perfect for those looking to add a piece of authentic Italian craftsmanship to their home décor.
