Description
The Vertebra chair, designed by Emilio Ambasz and Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli in 1976, is the first self-adjusting office chair, specifically engineered to naturally adapt to the user's body movements. Featuring an innovative vertebra system, a simple push of the back allows the seat to slide and the backrest to recline up to 12°, ensuring a comfortable and relaxed posture throughout the day. Recognized as a groundbreaking milestone in ergonomic chair design, the Vertebra has won numerous prestigious awards, including the ID Award for design excellence in 1977, the Smau Award for industrial design in 1979, and the Compasso d’Oro in 1981.
These models feature a high-impact glossy black polypropylene shell, green fabric upholstery, a tubular steel joint connecting the seat and backrest with a nitrovinyl protective bellows, and a load-bearing steel frame finished with heat-cured resins. Functional and versatile, these chairs are stackable for easy storage and come equipped with an armrest and an optional writing tablet available for both right-handed and left-handed users. Perfect for meeting rooms, training sessions, and conference areas, the Vertebra chair is the ultimate solution for modern offices seeking ergonomic comfort, practical features, and iconic Italian design.
