Description
The Superleggera is a timeless classic of Italian design: a famous chair designed by Giò Ponti in 1957, which combines lightness and sturdiness in perfect balance. The frame is made from natural ash wood with a glossy clear lacquer finish, featuring straight grain and no knots, giving the wood strength, lightness, and elegance. The seat is padded and finished in red fabric, enhancing the chair’s understated elegance. The design of the Superleggera is extremely ingenious: it weighs only 1.7 kg and is composed of 16 elements, 14 of which are different and each specifically designed for a particular static function. The supporting structure consists of two front legs and two rear posts with a triangular section and thicknesses ranging from 18 to 28 mm. The backrest is made up of two curved crossbars in solid wood, a front and a rear dowel, and two side dowels. The seat is composed of four shaped dowels joined to the legs and the posts by carefully designed joints. The back posts curve slightly outward, ensuring optimal ergonomics and surprising comfort for such a lightweight chair. An iconic piece of design, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of 20th-century Italian furniture.
