Description
The LC collection revolutionized the concept of seating by introducing a radical idea: bringing the frame to the outside and distinctly separating the structure from the cushions. In the LC2 models and especially in the LC3, this choice fully expresses the logic of rationalism, making visible the quality of craftsmanship and the relationship between the supporting frame and the upholstered elements, much like true modern architecture. Designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, the Grand Confort series became the archetype of the new seating conceived as “home equipment.” In the LC3 model, four independent cushions are held within a cage of steel tubes. The LC3 Grand Confort armchair featured here is a historical piece, with production code 718, making it one of the first thousand manufactured by Cassina between 1965 and no later than 1970. Coming from a prestigious villa in Central Italy, it is presented in excellent condition. The chrome steel frame is intact and shiny, with only minimal signs of age, while the padding remains soft, comfortable, and perfectly preserved. The elastic straps are still taut and functional. The leather upholstery is free from cuts or tears and retains a uniform patina, enhanced by a cleaning and nourishing treatment. It features the branded “Le Corbusier LC3” mark with production number 718.
