Alanda sofa by Paolo Piva for B&B Italia. A true design product, typical of the 90s. Made of steel and covered in gray Alcantara, completely removable. Armrests and headrest can be repositioned using a hinge mechanism with automatic locking in different positions and manual unlocking. THE SOFA HAS AN ADDITIONAL COMPLETE COVER IN AVIO BLUE COTTON. The Alcantara upholstery is in very good condition, it has no tears or breaks, the Cotton upholstery is also perfect, without any defects. In the 1980 project with Alanda an explicit game of composition of the parts is implemented... the sofa appears as a complex organism in which each element declares its own function... then it is the collaboration with CR&S that leads to the invention that makes Alanda a truly new design object. Not a simple sofa: a new patented mechanism ("hinge device with automatic locking in different positions and unlocking with normal control") which, applied to the steel profile structure, allows agile changes of the large headrest cushion from the horizontal position to vertical and vice versa. The armrests also rotate around a pin, assuming different easily adjustable positions. The inside of the padding is in cold-foamed polyurethane. The Alanda sofa, one of Piva's best-known products, was one of B&B Italia's best sellers for a long time. Paolo Piva, born in Adria, trained in Venice, where he was strongly influenced by the teachings of Tafuri, Carlo Aymonino and Carlo Scarpa. Piva inseparably fuses design theory and practice: not through utopian projects but with real and practical objects.
