P40 red fabric chaise lounge by Osvaldo Borsani

P40 Armchair first series, designed by Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno in 1955, is a true masterpiece of Italian post-war industrial design. This example combines cutting-edge mechanical aesthetics with unparalleled functionality: the seat can be adjusted into over 400 different positions, thanks to a patented joint system that allows independent adjustment of the backrest, seat, headrest, and retractable footrest. The originality of the first series is certified by physical marks, with the original Tecno logo featuring the red “T” on the metal frame and the engravings “Patented throughout the world” and “Made in Italy” on the rotating joints. The armchair also comes with original historical documentation, including technical drawings and the assembly and use manual, which illustrate the operating mechanisms, as well as the original advertising brochure with references to the historic Via Bigli 22 headquarters in Milan. The piece is in excellent vintage condition, with the original red fabric upholstery perfectly preserved and the solid black metal frame. All movement mechanisms have been checked and are fully functional.
