Description
Original Chesterfield 3-seater sofa created in the second half of the 20th century. Original made in England and handcrafted according to the English Chester tradition with certificate of authenticity. The structure is in solid wood, the burgundy calfskin is shaded by hand and the buttons are tied with string. The capitonnè effect, typical of the Chesterfield and the individually hammered burnished brass studs, make this authentic Chester sofa with a British character eternal. The manufacturing technique for Chesterfield sofas is called capitonné... consisting of the use of buttons arranged in a network of squares or diamonds (called checkers)... it is typically English and dates back to between the end of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth century . Already in 1800 the noun Chesterfield was synonymous with sofa, due to its remarkable popularity, not only in Europe but also in America. Its name derives from the British city of the same name since Lord Philip Stanhope, fourth Earl of Chesterfield, commissioned from a craftsman what would become the first example of Chester armchair, equipped with soft padding capable of "not excessively creasing" the uniform of the Conte dozing on it. The name Chesterfield, therefore, originates from the name of the Count's fiefdom and not from its origin, as many mistakenly believe! The first Chesterfield armchair was in fact made by a craftsman in London, where Lord Philip Stanhope lived. The leather used for this type of processing has always been bovine, of the highest quality and tanned with particular care... so as to be smooth, pleasant to the touch and free of imperfections.
