Black armchair UP5_6 2000 Big Mama by Gaetano Pesce

Designed in 1969, the UP series has stood out from the beginning for its expressive shapes, covered in elastic fabric. This innovative solution, balanced between design and art, comes from the imaginative mind of Gaetano Pesce. It is made through an injection mold of polyurethane, a flexible foam that allows the use of unusual shapes, always maintaining and returning to its original shape (UP). The UP series has been re-proposed since 2000 by B&B Italia with modern technologies. Among the armchairs, the UP5_6 stands out, also called Big Mama, with its sinuous and feminine shapes, with a footrest in the shape of a ball that can be interpreted in various ways: as a ball and chain of the woman (prisoner of male prejudices) or as mother and child, connected by the umbilical cord. The armchair is very comfortable, has a strong visual impact and requires a space suitable for its size. The lining, a stretch wool blend fabric, has - for reasons unknown to us because we bought the furniture together with an apartment - small cuts in the lining in some places that can be seen in the various photos (there are 5 in total). They are not difficult to mend, but the work should be done by an expert hand. The black color will help hide any traces of sewing thread.
