Pair of DS2 chairs in black ash wood by Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Pair of DS2 chairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for MDF Italia, part of the prestigious Great Masters of the 20th Century collection. An example of 1990s design, these iconic chairs reinterpret the formal language of the great Scottish architect in a contemporary key. The structure is in open-pore black lacquered ash, embellished with elegant square mother-of-pearl inlays on the horizontal band of the backrest. The seat in hand-woven natural straw gives an authentic and artisanal character. In very good condition, they show minimal signs of wear limited to some corners of the wooden structure, without compromising their aesthetics or solidity. Originally designed for the country residence of the Scottish magnate WT Basset-Lowke, these chairs represent a refined tribute to the work of Mackintosh and are documented on pages 94 and 95 of the Great Masters of 20th Century Design catalogue.
